Triumph of Joy by Pauline Robinson

Triumph of Joy by Pauline Robinson

Fear; I define fear as something that can always take a hold on your life, any part of your life. Fear has a way of controlling who we are, who we want to be, and what we want to do. Rather than allow Fear to rule our life, we all have the strength and courage to face fear and to turn fear into nothing more than just the word.

In Triumph of Joy by Pauline Robinson she was able to take back her life by facing each fear that came her way. She did it in many unique ways, by finding out who she wanted to be and how to create her dreams. As I sat reading Triumph of Joy I found myself in a journey back to my childhood. For the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran I could relate to the pain Pauline dealt with for many, many years. People do not realize how much of a struggle it is until they live it.
Diagnosed with PSTD Pauline’s husband unknowingly caused the family deep amounts of pain. With the children he loved dearly he was distant at times. When Pauline experienced deep loss with the death of her father, her husband could not support her emotionally. Pauline did her best to keep the family supported and loved. Feeling the need to protect their children, Pauline hid the worst of her husband’s behavior. For a long time it was her secret alone to bear, until she couldn’t hide the truth anymore. It was at this time her husband took his life.

Struggling with loss of self, Pauline was gradually able to crawl out of the deep despair. Having lived a life controlled by her husband’s PTSD, and  losing her own sense of identity; Pauline dared to dream again and to face her fears. She had to figure out who she was and what she wanted out of life. Pauline took herself out of the cocoon that she was in for so very many years and she transformed herself into a butterfly; from there she spread her wings and she flew into her new life, new beginnings and new journey.

Pauline’s story will inspire others to transform their pain into something better. The inspiring poems that she writes take a deep look into her soul and teach us some lessons in life that sometimes we forget.
